NOTE: The Fourth Quarter 2011 average price list was recalculated and made necessary changes for a few items. The average prices for taro, green banana, soy sauce and rice were corrected. In the past quarters, the prices for these items were totaled and divided into total numbers of prices collected. For example, 12 prices are collected for taro from 12 different outlets. The prices are then summed and divided into 12 (e.g., 60.67/12) equal the average price. The problem was that each priced item has a different weight and price for every outlet: Example: soy sauce – Store 1 item price collected (weight 1 gallon = price ($9.50) Store 2 item price collected (weight 20.oz bottle = price $3.16). Seven prices for soy sauce and 4 of the 7 stores were priced for the 1 gallon bottle. In the past quarters, the CPI summed up all the prices with different weights and prices and then divided into 7 to get the average price which is incorrect. This mistake was corrected in the fourth quarter to reflect the more accurate and corrected average prices for these items.
